History
History and development of the garden
First of all, how can we not speak of Madame Marie Lacoste who was the godmother of Jean FAGEOLLES and to whom this land belonged… There stops my knowledge of the lineage of the owners!
How long has she been in my family? since 1973.
Jean FAGEOLLES inherited this land from his godmother and he was very keen on it.
The garden has always been maintained and some people imagine that it could be a moat filled with water?
The configuration of the Porte des Tours with a drawbridge does not make this very credible. But however, we can see along the walls the defense architecture of the ramparts. Certainly, it was the place where stone was cut to build the door of the towers ... What a reversal of the situation!
Jean and Cécile FAGEOLLES simply maintained this "waterless" land for a long time, until their installation in 1989 in Domme, then in retirement.
The meeting with General Carmille's son-in-law was a real thunderbolt coming and going on the 2CV later renamed
"la Chouilloute". With her, He scraped all the stones of the Bastide to his garden where he grew in the love of his wife Marguerite, zucchini topped with the flower! Symbol of LOVE.
Marguerite, who sang "the daughters of Périgord" (written by General CARMILLE, her father), was a hell of a "clearer" and had made her husband, a horseman in the army, an outstanding gardener: "so he gives me peace” Shesaid.
Mister Chouillou feeling too old, he laid down the arms of the gardener and the 2CV at the foot of ourfamily, asking us to take care of it!
So the 2CV has become “la Chouilloute” and the land has been somewhat orphaned by this zucchini lover.
Bernard and Nicole Nonclercq proposed at that time to take charge of the garden to enlarge their too small vegetable garden and above all to transform it into a medieval garden!
So the story of the medievalgarden really begins with them in 2007.
They documented a lot: learned the ancient techniques of using coders and straps, worked the spirituality of monastic gardens, sought water and solutions ...
They created in connection with the constellation Virgo this additional triangle in this medieval garden
They also brought their light with sun in the middle of its squares using a gazebo which was built of hazel wood onwhich he grew roses and goat leaves.
This achievement gave rise to several exhibitions in Domme and many questions.
Then comes the time for the departure of our friends, much missed, at Domme, who left the medieval garden fallow and above all always without water…
The problem with this garden is the recovery and storage of water!
Along the walls, the rainwater runoff, thanks to the new roofs on the Porte des Tours for the protection of graffiti, finally brings a recent solution (brilliant GLYN!).
To avoid departures of very abundant jungle and keep the squares; we have put in the various plots, nut shells representative of a well-developed industry in Dordogne, waiting for betterdays.
Now it's Glyn and Catherine's turn to take over this garden with the only recommendation from Cecile FAGEOLLES: "Please continue with the medieval garden"
With great professionalism they were inspired by all these techniques and their worthy predecessors.
Long live to this garden!
Jean-Marie
